A graduate of Michigan State University, Rob was a 4 year letterman and captain of the 1988 Rose bowl team. After graduation, Rob underwent a 9 month formal insurance training program with Central Mutual Insurance Company and earned his Property & Casualty license in 1988. Seven years later he and John Maconachy started Maconachy-Stradley Insurance agency in 1995 and built their agency from the ground up. Rob specializes in commercial insurance products, including coverage for contractors, manufacturing, retail, and medical malpractice.
Rob and his son Shane live in Hartville, Ohio where he is very active in his community, having served on the board of directors at the Jackson-Belden Chamber of Commerce and Meals On Wheels. Rob is also active with The Stark County Community foundation raising funds in memory of his wife Nanci. These funds are used to support The Strong Kids program at his local YMCA.
Drew grew up in an insurance family – both his father and mother were agents – so insurance was a natural career path. Through consultation with his father, John Maconachy, a founding partner in Maconachy Stradley Insurance, he determined the best path to success was to learn the insurance industry from the inside out. As a finance major in college he took every insurance course that was available to him.
Following college, Drew went to work for AIG for 3 years as a commercial underwriter. While at AIG, he completed one of the strongest and most rigorous training programs in the industry: 9 months learning underwriting, claims management, and actuarial studies. As a result of this training and his ambition, he was able to grow his portfolio from $15,000,000 to $25,000,000 and wrote the largest account in his team’s history.
Others took notice and he was recruited by Hub International, the 9th largest brokerage in the world, at age 26. With Hub, it was basically sink or swim – he was given a phone and computer and told to sell. Looking back, Drew sees this experience as invaluable and the best way to learn how to sell effectively. There, Drew was able to acquire middle market clients in various industries across the country, and learned the value of exceptional customer service.
The things Drew values most are his family, his business, and his community. An alumni of Torchbearers, Akron Ohio’s leading young professional service and leadership group, he is also an active volunteer at the Akron Regional Foodbank, and various community events throughout the year.
Rob and Drew pride themselves on hiring the most qualified candidates available. While that often leads to an expensive and time consuming on boarding process, the results certainly justify it.

John Maconachy had been selling insurance since 1973 and hired Rob Stradley to work with him in 1988. It was a good fit from the start. The two men shared the same ideas of what an insurance agency should be – responsive, knowledgeable, and dedicated to service. This common vision, articulated many years ago, is woven into the ethos that serves as the foundation of Maconachy Stradley Insurance to this day.
In 1995, John and Rob made it official and formed Maconachy-Stradley Insurance Agency Inc. They built the business from the ground up. From the beginning, John and Rob made it a point to hire only the most experienced staff and associates. Maconachy Stradley Insurance does not hire anybody without a track record of success in the industry. Our staff has always been made up of experienced professionals with a thorough knowledge of the the insurance market and valuable connections with vendors.
This approach to providing insurance proved to be fruitful. In 2003, The agency relocated to North Canton Ohio, from Canton Ohio, in order to add space for staff and other personnel as production increased. The new building has been the home of Maconachy Stradley insurance ever since.
2012 was a year of change, as the agency welcomed Drew Maconachy, son of John Maconachy, to the business. Drew worked in the insurance industry in Chicago for 9 years as part of the plan to eventually fill his father’s shoes at Maconachy Stradley Insurance. This plan was put into action so that Drew wouldn’t use up agency resources while he learned his craft.
An unforeseen benefit of this plan was the insurance company contacts he was able to develop and keep after making his move to MSI. Drew also brought with him a knowledge of risk mitigation techniques and an ability to service middle market accounts with an exceptional retention rate. Because of the value he brought to the agency, he was made a partner in 2015.
